The Reason Behind Acne Scars

By Timothy Sanders

Acne is a perennial problem particularly for women, with its sudden appearance and the lasting scars that it leaves behind. Notwithstanding your hatred for it, acne can not be escaped by an average teenager and considerable care is required in order to remove these scars and preventing them from appearing again.

When the sebum discharged by skin glands comes in contact with bacteria, it causes an infection, which is known as acne. When this infection is being healed, a protein called collagen is created under the skin. On the amount of collagen going below normal, tiny depressions are created on the skin and on its level being too high, visible protrusions appear. Acne scars develop in both these cases. Adolescents are typically more susceptible to acne infection as their hormones rise all of a sudden at the time of puberty causing greater sebum release.

Among the typical reasons of acne infection are use of cosmetics that are not suitable to the kind of skin, taking contraceptive medication, consumption of medicinal drugs, and genetic reasons. A number of lifestyle aspects including food that is not healthy enough and mental stress can also result in acne. But as against what most people believe, scientists have not found any connection between spicy food and acne.

Although a variety of creams and herbal products are available in the market to cure acne, it is better to seek medical help if the condition worsens or keeps on recurring. Abstaining from squeezing the lesion or jabbing it with any sharp object is a must to avoid aggravation of acne.

An increasing number of people are also opting for cosmetic treatments to remove acne scars and to get back a spotless skin. Surgical procedures and laser treatment are among the most effective methods of permanently getting rid of acne scars, but many other innovative treatments are also available nowadays. You should visit a good dermatologist who would be able to determine your skin type and suggest a proper treatment.
