YMCA Camps

By Martin Paul

At the area I grew up in, YMCA camps are really very popular. You see, parents around town doesn't have a lot of cash to get their kids away to expensive forests camps, but on the other hand they want to give their kids an opportunity to get in shape and enjoy the summer season just how all children prefer - by running around, swimming, playing sports, and generally goofing off. YMCA camp gave us the opportunity to do exactly that. Also see these Great Supply of Church Bulletins that can be helpful for the camp.

The first year I ever attended YMCA summer camp, I was getting into fifth grade as well as dreading the experience. I didn't want to have to be gone from home everyday. I truly preferred to read, and wanted to take my summer curled up with a book. Nevertheless, my parents wanted to see me to get in condition, hence they sent me off to the day summer camp.

YMCA camps had not been much of a habit in my family. My older sister had really loved attending girl scout camp herself, and also my big brother was a boy scout.

The reason why I went to YMCA camp was given that it was near and convenient, and didn't require me to sleep away. I'd spend the day there and then my parents would pick me up.

Though I might have preferred a more academic summer camp at that age, I ended up enjoying YMCA camps pretty well. I took to the lake like a duck, and was immediately made part of the swim team.

Many of the other kids had more knowledge than I did, but it did not take me all that long to catch up with them, and also surpass their level of skill. In the end of the summer vacation, I'm one of the best swimmers in the whole place.

From then on, I went to YMCA camps every single year. I really liked to swim, and they let me enjoy time there in the swimming pool. On top of that, I got to do some crafts and arts. I even got to read for an hour every now and then, which has been by far my favorite hobby.

The camp kept me from my mom's hair, and gave me a chance to workout - something that I really wouldn't normally did if had not been in that camp. Now that I am raising my kids, I think I might send them back to the same summer camp I used to go to.
