Regarding Training Certification Programs For Phlebotomy Training & Certification

By Cesar Rutske

If you want to have an advantage, then a superb educational background and have one of the many phlebotomy training certification programs are the things you need as an aspiring phlebotomist. Though clearly there never was a law in the United States stating that a certificate is needed to be a phlebotomist, except in California and Louisiana, employers would always choose to hire only those phlebotomists that are nationally certified and have graduated from an accredited or approved phlebotomy training program. Luckily you can find a lot of different training programs available for people who want to be a phlebotomist.

You can find associate and bachelor's degrees available in clinical and laboratory technology. Both teach more on the aspects of technical positions rather than phlebotomy only. The so called phlebotomy certificate programs appear to be more common. Unlike degrees that can take up to four years to be able to finish, it will only take you about twelve weeks to finish those certificate programs. The average tuition of taking up a degree ranges from $1500 to $3000. Indeed it is definitely higher than certificate programs. Those phlebotomists whose educational level are above average already have an edge in the employment world but still those certified phlebotomists are highly in demand now.

In selecting a bachelor certificate program, it will greatly depend on the student himself. You can include factors like location, cost, duration of the program and class schedules. The student can freely choose as to what program fits him. Like he can go for a program that is close to his home, or the one that is short to complete, and a program that offers flexible class schedules. They also must choose training certification programs that are recognized nationally or by national certifying agencies. He must be able to make sure of that.

Some examples of the organizations we are talking about are United States Department of Education and the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS). The Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will be the one to approved or disapproved the curriculum and materials to be used by the organizations. Moreover, graduates of an approved or accredited program is a qualification needed to write national certification exams. There are some phlebotomy training programs that will work in affiliation with some certifying agencies to offer the exam to phlebotomists upon graduation.

You can find a lot of different types of phlebotomy certificate programs. You may see some in a traditional classroom setting. All the types of courses offer both classroom and clinical instruction. And of course, there are also online courses. A great online course offer a clinical component or may also offer help to students in setting up an internship position to gain hands-on experience. Topics about human anatomy and physiology, blood collection and storage techniques, and administrative activities such as record keeping and labeling, and first aid and CPR are some of the things the students will surely learn in both cases. Whether you have a part time or full time employment, online courses are designed to fit your crazy schedule which makes it perfect and flexible.

It is also possible to have another option and that is students are to complete a workshop offered by the American Phlebotomy Association (APA). Its schedule is basically consistent wherein it is a two-day period, running from 9am to 5pm each day. In addition, these workshops are exclusively fit for existing medical personnel or those with a background in biology and chemistry. In this method, they will learn about phlebotomy theory, including basic anatomy and physiology and blood collection techniques. They get to apply what they have learned on both mannequins and humans. The American Phlebotomy Association's national certifying exam preparation is also their work. After finishing the workshop then you can already be allowed to write the certification exam. This type is perfect for those persons aspiring to be part of the field of phlebotomy or phlebotomy training.
